Woodrow Phoenix
Woodrow Phoenix is a writer, artist, and graphic designer based in London. His constant experiments with the form and style of the comic strip medium have resulted in an extremely varied output of narratives appearing in national UK newspapers including The Guardian, The Observer, The Independent and the London Evening Standard, in magazines and comics across Europe, the USA and Japan, and in television projects for Walt Disney and Cartoon Network.
His books include SugarBuzz!, Plastic Culture, the critically acclaimed Rumble Strip and its sequel Crash Course, the award-winning anthology Nelson, and the experimental She Lives, a gallery installation that is also a giant graphic novel, exhibited in the British Library, the London Cartoon Museum and other venues. She Lives was featured in a BBC4 television series, Art That Made Us in 2022. He often collaborates with museums and galleries. A specially commissioned artwork for the Foundling Museum was on show there between March and September 2022.
Woodrow was a visiting lecturer teaching on the MA in Graphic Novel and Children’s Books at Middlesex University until 2025. He also lectures around the country at other universities and art schools including a regular connection with the Glasgow School of Art. He was made a Fellow of The Society of Authors in 2023.
