Anne Dickson

Anne Dickson Ph.D is the author of several books on gender equality, assertiveness, and conflict and communication in relationships. Her best-selling and pioneering handbook, A Woman in Your Own Right, has been widely translated and is used in confidence building and personal development courses around the world. Fully updated in 2022 to mark its 40th anniversary, it continues to be recommended in counselling and therapeutic contexts, as does her book on women and sexuality, The Mirror Within.

Her other books include A Book of Your Own, Women at Work, A Voice for Now, Difficult Conversations,Teaching Men to be Feminist and Trusting the Heart, on emotions in everyday life, which will be reissued in early 2026.

Her new book explores misogyny in all its aspects – where it comes from, how it persists, and how it functions politically and socially. She looks at why sexist attitudes and behaviour persist so blatantly; why sexual violence and harassment remain commonplace; why women continue to experience domestic abuse without even realising that such behaviour constitutes abuse; and why women, rather than their male perpetrators, still carry the burden of shame.

Anne Dickson has degrees in psychology, mental health and environmental science. She has worked as a freelance psychologist, writer and trainer for many years in commercial, medical, academic and private organisations and is recognised as a leading authority on assertiveness training and interactive communication.
